A 19th-century top-floor apartment on Rua das Flores, stripped back to its terracotta tiles and stuccoed beams. We added almost nothing — a bronzed kitchen, a long oak table, three brass lamps and the right curtains. The light did the rest.
The original ceilings — 3.6 m of plaster cornice — set the rules. Furniture is low; the new joinery is brass-leaf and walnut; the floor is left as it was found. A single curtain runs the entire south façade and is drawn by hand.
We chose a single colour, a warm chalk, for all painted surfaces. The kitchen island is a continuous piece of patinated bronze; it will age unpredictably, which is part of the brief.
